Boat Wrapping on the Costa Blanca: Everything You Need to Know
Owning a boat on the Costa Blanca is a privilege — and a maintenance challenge. The combination of intense Mediterranean UV, salt water, algae and constant thermal expansion and contraction puts unique demands on any vessel’s exterior. Boat wrapping and marine PPF offer solutions that were previously only available to racing teams and superyacht owners.
What is Boat Wrapping?
Boat wrapping uses marine-grade vinyl film applied directly to the hull, superstructure, or both. Unlike paint, vinyl can be removed without damaging the underlying gelcoat. It can be replaced when faded or damaged without the cost and time of a full repaint. And it can transform the entire look of a vessel in a matter of days.
Marine Vinyl vs Automotive Vinyl: the difference matters
Standard automotive vinyl will fail rapidly in a marine environment. The combination of continuous UV exposure, salt water immersion and the flexing of fibreglass hulls requires a specifically formulated marine vinyl that can handle all three. We use Avery Dennison MPI Series and 3M 1080 Marine — vinyls specifically engineered for marine applications and tested in Mediterranean conditions.
What Can Be Wrapped?
Hull sides and waterline
The most popular application. Changing the hull colour dramatically transforms the look of any boat. Vinyl on the hull also provides protection against minor abrasions in marina berths.
Superstructure (cabin top and sides)
Protecting and refreshing the cabin exterior without sanding and repainting. Particularly useful for older vessels where the gelcoat has faded.
Jet Skis and PWC
Personal watercraft wraps are one of our most popular marine services. A full Sea-Doo, Yamaha or Kawasaki wrap takes 1–2 days and completely renews the machine’s appearance. We have specific patterns pre-designed for all major models.
Boat Lettering and Registration
Spanish maritime law requires vessel names and registration numbers to be clearly displayed. We cut all lettering from UV-resistant marine vinyl to exact specifications. We also offer custom graphics, national flags, racing stripes and full boat branding for charter operators.
How Long Does a Boat Wrap Last?
In Mediterranean conditions, a quality marine vinyl wrap lasts 5–7 years. Jet ski wraps, due to more intensive use, typically last 3–5 years. The Costa Blanca’s UV is significantly more intense than Northern Europe, which is why using marine-rated vinyl is non-negotiable.
